Luke 1:37 – “For nothing will be impossible with God“
The Angel Gabriel makes this wonderful powerful proclamation that is often overlooked and even overshadowed in the magnitude of its importance by the miracle Birth story of Jesus. It is not a proclamation that is time dated, it is a statement about the Nature of God that has been affirmed and proven in the Old Testament and will be in the New Testament. It is a proclamation that can stand alone, it needs nothing more than the potency of its own words. “For nothing is impossible with God” is a word of hope for the hopeless, hope for the doubter, confidence for the Christian’s journey.
In the spirit, excitement and anticipation of Christmas I think many miss this golden nugget that describes the powerful nature of Almighty God. The foundation of God’s nature is well established in the OT and through this season and passage, it continues a new journey in the birth of the Son of God. His birth is a miracle and surely a testament that nothing is impossible with God, but in about thirty years the world WOULD experience the power of God on another level, the richness of impossible acts shared with the world. God has shown up and is showing out in the life of Christ. This miracle is doing miracles, expressing the power of God making the impossible possible. I offer you in this Christmas season the above scripture to consider its message for the person who’s back is against the wall, when there is no hope, answers, solutions, or no cure. Hidden in the midst of the Christmas story is this gift from God ” For nothing is impossible with God”. The breath and measure of this proclamation is unlimited. NOTHING!
